Apparent and actual galaxy cluster temperatures

چکیده
The redshift evolution of the galaxy cluster temperature function is a powerful probe of cosmology. However, its determination requires the measurement of redshifts for all clusters in a catalogue, which is likely to prove challenging for large catalogues expected from XMM-Newton, which may contain of the order of 2000 clusters with measurable temperatures, distributed around the sky. In this paper we study the apparent cluster temperature, which can be obtained without cluster redshifts. We show that the apparent temperature function itself is of limited use in constraining cosmology, and so concentrate our focus on studying how apparent temperatures can be combined with other X-ray information to constrain the cluster redshift. We also briefly study the circumstances under which the non-thermal spectral features can provide redshift

baryonic matter distribution in the large-scale structures is one of the main questions in cosmology. This distribution can provide valuable information regarding the processes of galaxy formation and evolution. On the other hand, the missing baryon problem is still under debate. One of the most important cosmological structures for studying the rate and the distribution of the baryons is gal...
متن کامل0 Signatures of Galaxy - Cluster Interactions : Spiral Galaxy Rotation Curve Asymmetry , Shape , and Extent
The environmental dependencies of the characteristics of spiral galaxy rotation curves are studied in this work. We use our large, homogeneously collected sample of 510 cluster spiral galaxy rotation curves to test the claim that the shape of a galaxy’s rotation curve strongly depends on its location within the cluster, and thus presumably on the strength of the local intracluster medium and on...
متن کاملThe Effects of Substructure on Galaxy Cluster Mass Determinations
Although numerous studies of individual galaxy clusters have demonstrated the presence of significant substructure, previous studies of the distribution of masses of galaxy clusters determined from optical observations have failed to explicitly correct for substructure in those systems. In this Letter I present the distributions of velocity dispersion, mean separation, and dynamical masses of c...
متن کاملMismatch between X-ray and Emission-weighted Temperatures in Galaxy Clusters: Cosmological Implications
The thermal properties of hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy clusters are usually compared to observations by relying on the emission-weighted temperature Tew, instead of on the spectroscopic X-ray temperature Tspec, which is obtained by actual observational data. In a recent paper Mazzotta et al. show that, if the cluster is thermally complex, Tew fails at reproducing Tspec, and propose a ne...
متن کاملInvestigation of Volumetric and Acoustic Properties of Ionic Liquid + Amino Acid + Water Systems at Different Temperatures
This paper reports density and speed of sound data for solutions of the ionic liquids (ILs) [C4mim]Cl and [C4mim][CF3SO3] in aqueous solution of 0.05 w/w amino acids of alanine, serine and proline at T = (288.15, 298.15, 308.15 and 318.15) K. From the experimental data measured, the apparent molar volume (Vϕ), isentropic compressibility ( ), and apparent molar isentropic compression ( ) have be...
